What A Beautiful Day!

Well, the Little Griz coaches have done it again. The 08/09 training culminated once again this year with the annual Cookie Cup on Sunrise Bowl. There were 17 girls and 28 boys who each gave it their all. Awesome to see such intense faces in the start along with a few grins as well. Lots of great awards for all of the kidos too! Glad we had some sun screen. The older racers got to set the course. Great day! Managed to get in a few runs later with the whole family as well. Love the Bowl!

Fixed

Don and Jason at the Bowl Ski Shop installed helicoils in this AC4. The ski is in its third season with excellent Look bindings. All four screws from the rear binding blew out of the ski coming down the Griz Chute last Saturday. Thanks for the repair guys! Put her to the test this afternoon and she held.

Roundup Bridge

Took a few shots from the Roundup Bridge today. Did a quick spin over there this beautiful afternoon. Remember the Roundup bar? This is a favorite piece of water for the Missoula kayak crowd.
Also took a long distance shot of the back side of Sheep Mountain coming back to Missoula (below). Ok, I'm ready for some new snow now please. Lots of skiing to do and we don't need the fires again this year! Legs still hurt from yesterday too.

Nothing Fancy

Same equipment as the last few years. I did change the handle bars (needs end caps), and late last fall Max added some color to the cable housing. Took the Big Sur for some hill climbs late today above the U. golf course. Man, some weather! May as well get in some rides! How I love it so! Made it back in time for some tea and to watch the Last of the Summer Wine - a Saturday ritual!

Bridger's Ridge

Some local back country skiers have updated their guide to the Ridge at Bridger (Stepping Up) as noted at Kneetopia. Here is Lou's review. There is a junior ski race coming up at Bridger shortly so I hope they get some snow!

Time Warp

"Time Warp." That's how a friend, a fellow race parent, described spending four nights in White Sulphur Springs, Montana, in February. No, we were not antelope hunting, though there were a few of those about along with numerous elk and even a bison herd. We also were not putting in for a float down the Smith. Most of the critters were seen while we were driving route 89 early in the morning to Showdown, where the kids were attending the annual Northern Division Super G event. This was my third trip over for this race for the kids. This year the weather was exceptional, and boy was it ever noticed. Usually sub zero temperatures are the norm. The roads were mainly clear as well for another pleasant change. The folks at Showdown always seem to do a good job putting this on, and this year was not an exception.Sunday was really a fun day as the course was wide open and fast. Above the kids inspected the course prior to their final run of the race. The radar gun at the finish noted many of the racers were over 50 mph. Fun!
