Time Warp
"Time Warp." That's how a friend, a fellow race parent, described spending four nights in White Sulphur Springs, Montana, in February. No, we were not antelope hunting, though there were a few of those about along with numerous elk and even a bison herd. We also were not putting in for a float down the Smith. Most of the critters were seen while we were driving route 89 early in the morning to Showdown, where the kids were attending the annual Northern Division Super G event.
This was my third trip over for this race for the kids. This year the weather was exceptional, and boy was it ever noticed. Usually sub zero temperatures are the norm. The roads were mainly clear as well for another pleasant change. The folks at Showdown always seem to do a good job putting this on, and this year was not an exception.
Sunday was really a fun day as the course was wide open and fast. Above the kids inspected the course prior to their final run of the race. The radar gun at the finish noted many of the racers were over 50 mph. Fun!
