More ReCon

I headed up Sheep yesterday and ran into Mr. Cymbals who's going to do the lower 50 with some friends he said and was riding to get ready. Then, shortly after another friend and then I realized my legs felt like garbage. So, I went home and got some much needed yard work done with the rascals after a two on two soccer game at a local school playground!
Then, I decided to head back to Butte early Sunday to ride parts of the lower loop. Things have certainly changed since the '08 race. It's nice to know the finish is not in town so I don't have to accidentally ride almost downtown again prior to finishing! This is an epic loop. Most of the lower loop is on the CD trail, which now is very well maintained and marked. Wonderful singletrack. Even CD Hell Climb is packed down a bit.
The amount of climbing on this little loop is significant, that's for sure. If it's the same loop, the times of the guy's at the top last year are impressive. This is going to be a tough course. Looking forward to it. ps. I wonder who the Kenda stickered truck belonged to at Thompson?

Hey Garland,
Wish we'd have come across you yesterday out there on the recon effort. We biked up Hwy 2 & did the Pipestone to Homestake to Warren Heights Addition. We tried to find the route down into the Archery Range, but couldn't find the connector off that new USFS trail in there. Learnin' from last weekend's experience, decided to just back track out to Hwy & over to Thompson Park via the road. Saw the Tundra (Culver Academy framed on the back) and decided to give chase from Thompson Park up & over to Herman Gulch. Unable to reel ya' in, however... .

Hey Chad,

Good to hear from you. I just went Thompson to Homestake. Quite the loop. Absolutely beautiful C/D trail after Herman. Noticed IMBA's name on a few signs -it's nice to see their involved. Most of the signs are new (at least to me), and I noted one spot we all flew by not too far after a tough climb in '08 where the sign will be most welcome. We are lucky to have these trails, let along the ability to race on them. Should be a fun day!

Garland good to cross paths. We had great ride (45 mi 7500') then went for hike in 'Roots.
Hey - thank you very much for not only mentioning, but especially for supporting, our MD cause. Sincerely appreciated, means a lot and says a lot about you. Thanks!

Ed, It was great to visit. I don't think we've seen you since that afternoon at the base of the Gelande jump!

Our thoughts and prayers are with Cory and his extended family.

See you in Butte!

Hiked this recently--FS certainly packed a lot of snaky miles into a short linear distance. Helps with the pedal grade I guess.
