"Moving on a Slow Bell"
I heard it at first sounding faint from afar. Then, it became more clear. The snowplow! I sprang from bed and sure enough, it was snowing this morning (21st)! Not much accumulation on the bird feeder yet. Hope it keep it up.So, continuing to build a bit on the machine at the gym. Got in three pretty solid tempos last night. Time to tweak the diet a bit as well. Back to a left over chicken breast on some bananas, avocado, blueberries, spinach, tomatoes, lemon juice and olive oil topped of course with heaps of cinnamon. Oh, and a few almonds in there somewhere for my knees. Regulars have already noted this dish... Excited to get in the hills!

"A Psalm of Life"
Tell me not in mournful numbers,
Life is but an empty dream!-
For the soul is dead that slumbers,
And things are not what they seem.
Life is real! Life is earnest!
And the grave is not the goal:
Dust thou art, to dust returnest,
Was not spoken of the soul.
Not enjoyment and not sorrow,
Is our destined end or way;
But to act, that each to-morrow
Finds us further than today.
Art is long, and Time is fleeting,
And our hearts though stout and brave,
Still, like muffled drums, are beating
Funeral marches to the grave.
In the world's broad field of battle,
In the bivouac of Life,
Be not like dumb, driven cattle!
Be a hero in the strife!
Trust no Future, howe'er pleasant!
Let the dead Past bury its dead!
Act, - act in the living Present!
Heart within, and God o'erhead!
Lives of great men all remind us
We can make our lives sublime,
And, departing leave behind us
Footprints on the sands of time.
Footprints, that perhaps another,
Sailing o'er life's solemn main,
A forlorn and shipwrecked brother,
Seeing, shall take heart again.
Let us, then, be up and doing,
With a heart for any fate;
Still achieving, still pursuing,
Learn to labor and to wait.

Back at It
I finally figured out how to pair a new belt with an old and nearly broken watch. Ordered a new back to the watch as well...so far so good. So, it has been determined that I will attempt to get back in shape again to at least not make a complete fool out of myself (hopefully) at a couple of rando events. It's a bit embarrassing creating a pool under the cycling machine at a gym, but I guess that happens. So, the h/r stuff is to continue to get me motivated. Thad and Max are up for a few events as well. Thad is working on going sub-seven on the erg (I've never done that) and Max checks in that SLC needs snow and that he may be able to do the Keg this year rather than the sweep detail. I appreciate the Fam letting me take time to have fun in the mountains - Thanks Guys!

Doves
I noticed some doves in the backyard today. We finally got enough snow to cover things and remind me to put out some bird seed. Also, Carson's aviary had me thinking of it too. We usually feed the birds and enjoyed having a nest of them on our front door last year.Things have been busy lately. Hunting season wrapped up empty handed this year. Some of the highlights were hunting with my daughter and giving her an opportunity at an excellent whitetail. LR blew a stalk on a buck as well. We never got into the elk, other than my early season bump into some cows. Late season, I had a brief window at what I believe was the same whitetail buck on the same ridge (as we were on a few weeks prior) while hunting on an A/T setup. Hoping to hone this skill for next season. Maybe he'll survive the winter and still be around.
Got some skiing in yesterday at Lookout with some friends. I looked at my training log and at this time last year it was non-stop bowl and Griz runs. We need more of the white stuff.
